The Dos and Don’ts of Feeding Wild Animals

Feeding wild animals can support their survival, but it must be done responsibly:

Dos

  • Provide appropriate food, such as seeds for birds or vegetables for herbivores.
  • Place food in safe, accessible locations away from predators.
  • Maintain clean water sources, especially during extreme weather.

Don’ts

  • Avoid processed foods, bread, or sugary items.
  • Do not overfeed, as it can disrupt natural behaviours.
  • Avoid direct contact to minimise stress and preserve their natural fear of humans.
